Resolution is one of the biggest factors determining the quality of your digital images.
Resolution means how much “information” or dots/pixels are in your digital image.
The more dots/pixels, the sharper your image will be and the higher quality digital image you will get, all other factors remaining the same.
We offer three resolutions to choose from, 2000 dpi, 3000 dpi, and 4000 dpi for slide and negative scanning and 300 dpi and 600 dpi for print scanning.
(1200 dpi available on request for certain jobs – custom quotes available).
DPI = Dots Per Inch. — Dots meaning pixels
Negative Film and Slide Transparency Scanning Resolutions
2000 DPI – This scan is a medium resolution scan recommended for printing purposes up to a 5×7 print, or for web/email/social media/tv viewing purposes. For larger printing, or to crop in on an area to print, please choose a larger resolution.
3000 DPI – This scan is a high resolution scan recommended for printing purposes up to an 11×14 print, or for web/email/social media/tv viewing purposes. For larger printed photographs, to use in a professional capacity such as publishing, or just for a higher quality image, chose 4000 DPI.
4000 DPI- This scan is the highest scan resolution scan for transparent film. This will allow you to crop out portions of your image, create large photographic prints, upload online, use professionally, pretty much whatever you want. If it fits within your budget we always recommend going with the highest resolution, because you are capturing more data, which means you are getting a higher quality image.
Photograph Scanning
300 DPI – Use this scan when you are looking to reproduce an image of equal size or smaller than the original.
600 DPI – Use this scan when you wish to reproduce an image that is larger than the original, and/or equal to double the original size.
1200 DPI – This scan is mainly used for very small images, or cropped images that require enlargement with as much retained detail as possible.
